Historical Origins

Manzhouli was once called "Holzin Bragg", which means "exuberant spring water" in Mongolian. In 1901, Tsarist Russia built the "Dongqing Railway" to northeast China. The first station to enter China was built here. It was named "Manchuria", which was later officially called "Manzhouli" and is still in use today.

Manzhouli is also the hometown of prehistoric giant mammoths. In 1980, the Zhalai Nuoer Mining Bureau open-pit mine in Manzhouli City successively discovered two mammoth skeleton fossils while cutting away the overburden of the coal seam.
