History
The city was founded by Greek colonizers from Gela, under the name Akragas around 580 BC.
Even in antiquity, the city was famous for its wealth and its beautiful buildings. There are still magnificent temple ruins from ancient times, including the Concordia Temple, which is one of the best preserved of all Greek temples. It dates from the 400s BC.
