 | Note: In 2014 the US State Department issued a travel warning to avoid non-essential travel to Agua Prieta after sunset, following a series of gun battles between rival cartel factions which resulted in multiple fatalities. The city was the scene of cartel in-fighting in 2015, with some shootouts occurring in broad daylight. The travel warning has been rescinded, but visitors should still exercise caution especially at night, as the city is a major focal point for cross-border trafficking. |
