Ait-Ben-Haddou

Ait-Ben-Haddou is a city of Morocco. It is a traditional fortified city (or ksar) made of mud bricks in the High Atlas. It is on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and has been included in many films, most of them depicting Jerusalem.

To arrive

Ait-Ben-Haddou is accessible since Marrakesh or Ouarzazate.

Buses don't even stop at Ait-Ben-Haddou, but they can leave you approximately seven kilometers from the city, and then you can arrange a lift.

It is better to hire a taxi to take you into town.

Once inside the ksar, he can only walk. To reach the new part of the city, you have to cross the river, and there is no bridge. The only solution is to jump from rock to rock until you reach the other side of the river. Locals charge 10Dr to cross the river on a donkey. The river is shallow and can be forded.
