Ouarzazate is a city of Saharan Morocco.
To know
Ouarzazate is a small town of Morocco relatively modern, built in the twenties by the French, as a military and administrative center.
Geographical notes
It is located in the Dadès valley, at the crossroads of the Draa valley (in the central area of the Morocco), close to the sandy Sahara desert and can be reached from Marrakech through the Tizi n'Tichka pass.

The area around Mohammad V is within walking distance. The CTM station is there. Small taxis for travel within the city (no more than 10 dirhams from the airport to the hotel), large taxis for travel between cities (no more than 150 dirhams from Ait Benhaddou and back), including to Ait Benhaddou and around Kasbah .

Qasba Taourirt in Ourzazate
- 1 Casbah Taorirt (Towards the outskirts of Ouarzazate, in the direction of Tinerhir). Inhabited until shortly after the thirties, today an interesting tourist complex that can be visited. Behind the monumental building opens a small village still inhabited, inside the casbah. The Casbah was used, in 2006, for the third edition of the Italian reality show La Fattoria. In 2006 the film was shot The hills Have Eyes and in 2007 the sequel.
- 2 Atlas Film Corporation Studio. In the immediate vicinity of the charming town there are numerous film studios, including the Atlas studios, where various films set in the desert were (and still are) shot, including famous Hollywood epics of the past such as Lawrence of Arabia is Tea in the desert or Kundun by Martin Scorsese, and many others also in more recent times.

Shopping

Safety
Ouarzazate is very safe, but you don't have to wander into strange corners at night. Crime is minimal in southern Morocco, but it is better not to take (too many) initiatives.

- 1 Ait-Ben-Haddou (along the N9 state road in the direction of Marrakech) - Famous fortified village that served as the backdrop for scenes from the films Lawrence of Arabia and Jesus of Nazareth.
- 2 Oasis Fint
- 3 Zagora (113 km) - From Ouarzazate the N9 state road continues touching Zagora from where it can be reached 4 M'Hamid El Ghizlane for excursions in the surrounding desert on camel back, 4x4 or even quad bike.
- 5 Merzouga - Location famous for the huge erg Chebbi dunes, which have become a major attraction. The finale of the film "Marrakech Express" by Gabriele Salvatores was also set in the oasis of Merzouga. To reach Merzouga from Ouarzazate you can use normal bus lines which, however, most often end in Er Rachida, an administrative city of little interest. However, at the terminus and at the intermediate stops you will find a crowd of touts who will try to offer you a "discounted" ride. They are quite pushy.
