background

First of all, the Altai Territory can be characterized by a high natural diversity. There are also extensive steppes, ledges and mountains. The steppe zone is interesting due to the salty lakes with healing properties, the most famous and popular of which is Lake Jarovoye. In the south, closer to the border with the Altai Republic, the mountainous part of the region begins. Of course, the mountains here are not as high as in the Altai Republic, and in terms of mountaineering they are not that interesting, but the clean air, developed infrastructure and mild climate (compared to other regions of Siberia) attract a lot of tourists . There is a balneological health resort - the town of Belokurikha, a special recreational zone - the turquoise Katun, on the border with the Altai Republic there are many tourist centers. There are many caves in the Altai Territory that attract cave tourists, and the Biya and Katun rivers attract rafting enthusiasts. The banded pine forests are rich in berries, mushrooms and various animals. In addition, the Altai Territory is one of the most developed agricultural regions in Siberia.

security

You should prepare for extreme climates, especially in winter you need suitable clothing to protect yourself against the cold. It is helpful, whenever possible, to use local sources of information to be warned of floods, forest fires, etc. There are forbidden areas that you should avoid as much as possible.

Nature is very pristine and represents a danger for the inexperienced. If you are in the forest, you should watch out for snakes, which usually warm up in the sun on the stones. There aren't many of them around, but some could be venomous vipers. The other problem these (and other regions of the Northern Hemisphere as well) have is ticks. Your bites may be infectious, vaccinations are recommended.

One should never stray further from human settlements without the appropriate equipment and leave the path, destination and intended period of the hike or rafting tour behind with every tour.
