The little place Alto Río Senguer with 1,500 inhabitants is located in the southwest of the argentinian province Chubut and is the administrative center of this region in Andean region. It is the starting point for a number of almost unknown lakes and river valleys in the midst of snow-capped mountains.

Alto Río Senguer is located in the valley of the river of the same name, which curiously also has a double R at the end (Senguerr) is written. It is a center of agriculture and especially cattle breeding, tourism is still underdeveloped.
The region's lakes are of glacial origin and are the main attraction of the area. Here you can find the typical landscape of the southern Andes, the Patagonian wet forest, which, however, is interrupted by cultivated land.

Two simple hotels accommodate the few travelers in Alto Río Senguer. More interesting for adventure tourists are the campsites outside the village: the Camping Municipal is right on Lago Fontana and has hot water and full sanitation.
