The Andean region of the Chubut province takes the west of the province Chubut a. The area is characterized by medium mountain peaks (2,000 to 3,000 m), green, wooded valleys and a large number of lakes.
The north of the region is very popular as a travel destination, but the south is still largely in its original state.

getting there
Starting points are San Carlos de Bariloche for the far north as well Esquel, both of which can be reached by bus from numerous cities. Bariloche also has a larger airport. The best way to get to the south of the region is by plane (airline LOAD) or by bus from the port city Comodoro Rivadavia which itself has an airport and numerous bus connections.

The main axis from north to south is the Ruta Nacional 40, but in some sections alternative routes are better developed than these.

Trekking, hiking, skiing, mountaineering, canoe rafting, horse riding and mountain biking are best practiced in the Los Alerces National Park, but also in the Río Mayo area in the south (less crowded).
