background

Altreu is a Swiss Location of the municipality Selzach in the canton Solothurn.

In the Middle Ages, there was a small town on the site of today's settlement. This was destroyed by the Guglers in 1375. Since the city was threatened by the Aare, which was shifting closer and closer to the city due to erosion and river shifts, it was not rebuilt afterwards. Over time, a small settlement developed, but it always belonged to the municipality of Selzach. In 1948 storks began to be resettled in Switzerland again.
