Antiparos (Antiparos, Αντίπαρος) is an island of Cyclades.
To know
From the 1970s, Antiparos became a popular tourist destination among nudist lovers, attracted by the remote and sandy beaches of the island. The most frequented by nudists was and still is the campsite on the Teologi beach, to the north, opposite the uninhabited islet of Diplo. The end of the beach of the village is also nudist, as well as that of Perigiali.
Today Antiparos welcomes much more diversified forms of tourism since the times of the hippies. Since the 1990s there has been a constant improvement in the tourist infrastructure which has also attracted families.
Geographical notes
Antiparos is located 1.5 km southwest of Paro, separated by the Strait of Antiparos, known as Amfigeio. It is 8 kilometers from the port of Parikia.
The maximum length of the island is 11 kilometers from north to south, while the maximum width reaches 4.5 kilometers. The total area is estimated between 37 and 38 km.
The highest peak, Sant'Elia, in the middle of the island, reaches 308 m.
The island is of volcanic origin. The flowers that thrive in the region are mainly bougainvillea which adorn gardens, homes and shops. The morphology of Antiparos is essentially characterized by a plain, with many small hilly peaks, while the vegetation of the island is made up of shrubs.
Antiparos is surrounded by a myriad of tiny uninhabited islands which in the past have returned abundant archaeological material, such as Tsimintiri, Revmatonisi and Tourlos. In recent years, excavations of great archaeological importance have been conducted at Despotiko, an uninhabited islet west of Antiparos.
