Athens is located on a small peninsula contained in the larger Greek peninsula. This peninsula is the core of a historical and current region called Attic.
The city is located by the sea, but not directly on the coast. In the map on this side, the community of Athens is shown by the letter "A"; around it are other communities which are now its suburbs. Among the suburbs, is the famous Piraeus (letter "E"), which has been the port of Athens for over 2000 years.
