Geography
East Azerbaijan is located in northwestern Iran within the Third Administrative Region. To the west it borders with Ardabil, from the south-east with Zhangan, from the south-west and west with West Azerbaijanand from the north with Armenian Sjunik and Azerbaijanincluding Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic [3]. It covers an area of 45 650.5 km². Part of the western border of the last island is the shore of Lake Urmia, which is the lowest point in East Azerbaijan (altitude 1220 m above sea level).
