Büren on the Aare is a Swiss City in the canton Bern.

The village was founded in the 12th century by the barons of Strassberg. The village is mentioned for the first time in 1185. In 1260 the place received city rights. Berne conquered the town in 1398 and it has belonged to the Canton of Berne ever since.

The Büren an der Aare station is now the terminus for regional trains from Kerzers above Lyss. There is a connection to the trains in Lyss Bern-Biel.

There are hourly postbus connections to Zollikofen and Solothurn.

Büren owns a beautiful one Old town.

  • The Büren Castle, which was built for the Bernese bailiffs, is now the seat of the district administration.
  • The Wooden bridge. Most of it was rebuilt in 1991, as an arson attack took place on it in 1989, during which it was badly damaged.
