History

The park was established by the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of October 30, 1954. It was established on an area of 16.37 km².

Wet Stawek

The strict reserve covered 1049.89 ha, and the partial reserve 624.89 ha. The establishment of the Babia Góra National Park was influenced by many factors, including the classically shaped system of plant floors, the complex of rock vegetation and the only plant sites in Poland: deer acorn and alpine knotweed. In the top part of Babia Góra, there is the only mountain level in the Beskids and many disappearing landslide ponds.

In 1977, Babia Góra, within the borders of the National Park, was granted the status of a biosphere reserve and included in the UNESCO-MAB "Man and the Biosphere" program. More than 20 years of efforts to expand the Park paid off in 1997. The area of the park was increased to 3,391.55 ha by a regulation of the Council of Ministers. A buffer zone with an area of 8,437 ha was also created.
