Swimming is the capital of the district Swimming of the canton Aargau, north in the Switzerland.

background

With around 19,000 inhabitants (2018), Baden is the third largest municipality in the canton of Aargau after the neighboring municipality Wettingen and the canton capital Aarau. At the beginning of the 2nd century there was a Roman settlement named in the present area of the city Aquae Helveticae «Helvetic Baths». The Romans attributed a healing effect to the thermal springs. Nowadays, however, the sources are only used in individual hotels. Since the turn of the millennium, however, efforts have been made to make the springs accessible to the public again, so that the thermal baths have become one of the main attractions of the city of Baden.[1] In April 2018, the construction of a new thermal bath on the Limmat started according to the architect's plans Mario Botta, which will one day become the flagship of the city. In the early Middle Ages, Baden was the administrative seat of the Habsburgs. Baden was granted city rights by King Albrecht of the Habsburgs in 1308. After the Habsburgs were driven out by the Confederates in 1415, Baden became the seat of the daily statutes (conference) of the federal places. Baden was chosen as the seat of the daily statutes due to its location central to the federal locations and the baths. The city retained this status as the "secret capital of the Confederates" for almost 300 years until 1712. The historic daily statute hall in the city's administrative building, which can be visited as part of city tours, also dates from this time. At the end of the 19th century the company BBC was founded in Baden by the two young pioneers of electrical engineering, Walter Boveri and James Elliott Lancelot Brown. Baden became an industrial city and the center of the Swiss electrical industry. Today's FIG (1988 merger of the BBC with the Swedish ASEA) with around 147,000 employees worldwide, Baden still employs several thousand people.
