Tourist Attractions

  • Balm ruin. The Balm ruins were probably built as a grotto castle in the early 11th century, presumably by the noble lords of Balm. After a checkered history, the castle fell into ruin in the middle of the 15th century. In 1939/41 only poorly documented uncovering and partial restoration work took place, in the course of which the weir system was divided into an outer bailey with an economic building at the foot of the Balmfluh, an elongated staircase in the form of a rock ramp and finally into the inner bailey inside the natural grotto could.

activities

  • The Balmberg is a popular starting point for a hike on the Jura to the Weissenstein, as this section of the Jura High Trail can also be climbed with families and is quite short with about an hour's hiking time. From Solothurn, it is easy to do as a circular route by public transport. By post bus to Balmberg, then hike to the Weissenstein, from there with the chairlift to Oberdorf and back by train. Of course, it can also be done in the opposite direction.
When there is enough snow, several ski lifts are in operation on the eastern slope of the Röti. It is also possible to go cross-country skiing on the Jura ridge. However, the snow conditions are extremely uncertain.
