Of Chiang Mai in Thailand A coach leaves at 8:30 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m. in approx. 7 hours Chiang Khong, which is directly across from Houayxay on the south bank of the Mekong lies. The walk from the center of the village to the border station on the river takes about 10 minutes. From there you can take a motorboat to Houay Xay for 40 baht.

If you walk uphill from the ferry past the border station, you come to a main road. Just a few steps to the left of the junction is an ATM that accepts Master Cards. In the immediate vicinity you will find shops for everything you need for the boat trip to Pakbeng (drinks, snacks, fruit, etc.).
