Chiang Khong(Thai: เชียงของ) is a city in the province Chiang Rai in Northern Thailand. Here is a border crossing to Laos. It is the counterpart to the Laotian city Houay Xay.
getting there

The bus out Chiang Mai stops about half a kilometer before entering the village. The border post on the river can be reached on foot in about 10 minutes. There the "ferries" (motor boats) will follow suit Houay Xay from (40 baht).

In the center of the village, directly on the main street, there are several nice bars next to each other, which unfortunately close at 1am. The residents of the remote border town look forward to visitors and also like to toast with them.

Cheap and clean hotels (200-400 Baht / night) with a grandiose view over the Mekong can be found on the main street and on the parallel riverside street.
