Bengali (Bangla / বাংলা) is the sole official language of Bangladesh, and one of the 22 official languages of India. It is spoken as a first language by the majority of the population in Bangladesh, as well as people in the Indian state of West Bengal, which includes Kolkata (Calcutta), India's third largest city. It is also a major language of the Indian state of Tripura. It is the sixth most spoken language in the world.
