Berane (Serbian / Montenegrin: Беране) is a city in the east Montenegro.
background
The city lies in a basin of the Lim and is the starting point for excursions to the Bjelasica Mountains to the west. It was founded in 1862 as an Ottoman military camp and was named after the Montenegrin partisan leader Ivan Milutinović in 1946 Ivangrad renamed and quickly industrialized (including cellulose factory and plywood factory). Since 1992 it has been called Berane again.
