Bergues lies in the greater region Hauts-de-France (former region Nord-Pas-de-Calais) in the North department in the North Of France and as a film set is one of the most famous places in the nation. The town's landmark is the medieval city wall and the belfry (bell tower) with its carillon. The belfries of France (cross-border with Belgium) have been part of the since 1999 UNESCO World Heritage. The Bergues Belfry was added to the list in 2005.
background
The previously rather sleepy town became one of the most famous places in France in 2008. The film was running then "Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis" (Welcome to the Sch’tis) in the cinema. The provincial comedy is about the fate of a post director from sunny Provence who was transferred to the cold and windy northern region. At the time, it was the most successful film in France to date, with over 20 million admissions. The name Sch'ti is derived from Ch'timi, the nickname for the inhabitants of the Atlantic coast: in the local dialect, "Ch" becomes "Sch".

The tower was blown up in 1944 when the Germans withdrew during World War II, but the 50 bells had already been dismantled and hidden when the German troops arrived. Reconstruction began in 1958. In 1961, the reconstruction of the city bell tower in its historical form was completed. The belfry has been part of the
