Birstein is a city in the south Vogelsberg.

background

Birstein is located on the southern foothills of the Vogelsberg, which already merges into the Kinzig valley here. As a former residential town, Birstein has numerous sights.

Birstein now has 16 districts, most of which are very small and sleepy (less than 100 inhabitants). To the east of the city center Untersotzbach and Obersotzbach. Follow the Vogelsberg up Unterreichenbach and Oberreichenbach (both in a side valley), Fischborn, Wüstwillenroth, Wettges (also in a side valley), Lichen red and finally Völzberg as the northernmost district at an altitude of 570 meters. The three connected villages are to the west of Fischborn Illnhausen, Kirchbracht and Mouse angle as Buttocks/Boss buttocks, which is not only a curiosity due to its name but also due to the fact that the contiguous village was separated in two halves by the Prussian / Hesse state border for centuries (hence the different spelling).
