Blaye is a french City in the department Gironde.
background
Blaye is the capital of the Arrondissement Blaye and the administrative seat of the Canton Blaye.
The city lies on the eastern bank of the Gironde estuary. She goes to the Roman settlement Blavia back. Today's cityscape is shaped by the mighty citadel, which is located on a 45 meter high rock on the Gironde.
The municipality gives its name to the appellation Blaye (or Blayais), which has had the status of an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC for short) since 1938.
