Bœrsch is a city of Bas-Rhin.

Understand

In a green setting, between vineyards and hills, Bœrsch hides some Renaissance treasures. Typical town of Alsatian Piedmont, the Renaissance style predominates on the Town Hall square. We will not fail to notice the Town Hall and its spiral staircase housed in a turret. A six-bucket well, dated 1617, completes this remarkable ensemble, but Boersch also retains a medieval aspect in many aspects, notably the ramparts and gates (1340). At the bend of the streets and alleys, one can admire the half-timbered houses and their many emblems of trades. Note for example the old house of the Teutonic Knights (1499).

See

  • Spindler art marquetry  – The workshops and exhibition gallery of the Art Spindler marquetry are located on the site of the chapter of Saint Leonard. The quality and refinement of the works produced there are recognized worldwide.
  • Medieval gates and walls of Boersch  – Built around 1340, today there are 3 of the 4 gates that allowed access to the city: to the east the Porte Basse (Niedertor), to the south the Porte Haute (Obertor) today decorated with a representation of Saint Médard, patron saint of the parish and to the north the Rear Door (Aftertor). To the west, the Presbytery gate was demolished in 1758 due to dilapidation. The ramparts, very well preserved, still enclose the city.
  • Saint-Leonard  – Saint Léonard was a former Benedictine convent which has now disappeared. It now houses the workshops of the famous Spindler art marquetry, which saw the birth of Alsatian Art Nouveau at the start of the 20th century.
  • Klingenthal  – Klingenthal, valley of the blades, owes its name to the Manufacture Royale d'Armes Blanches which was installed there in 1730. Along the Ehn river, forge swifts, sharpeners, workshops and houses gave birth to in the village-factory of Klingenthal.
