Facts about Bosnia and Herzegovina
History
During World War I, Bosnia and Herzegovina became part of Yugoslavia. The country's inhabitants were subjected to extensive purges during the 20th century and after the civil war the country became independent again in 1995. The country consists of the two entities Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Sprska and the district of Brcko. The country is governed by a popularly elected presidential council. Three different people change power in the presidency and they will represent each of the three peoples in the country.
The locals
There are just over four million inhabitants in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They are preferably Bosnians, Serbs or Croats. How many there are of each people and how many inhabitants they actually have is somewhat shrouded in obscurity, as no census has been taken since 1990. Large migration flows due to the war in the Balkans have changed the demographic picture since then and they will make a new census in 2010.
Climate
The climate is Mediterranean along the coast to change to a mild alpine climate in the mountains.
