Bruchköbel is a city in Main-Kinzig district.

background

Old town hall and Jakobuskirche

Bruchköbel was a rather insignificant, rural town for a long time, but it received town charter as early as the Middle Ages, namely on February 6, 1368. The only surviving evidence from this period is a defense tower from 1410, as the whole city was destroyed in a fire around 1634/1635.

The rapid growth of Bruchköbel in recent times is almost exclusively due to the admission of numerous displaced persons from the eastern regions, as evidenced by many street names. Without any notable industry of its own, Bruchköbel serves almost exclusively as a dormitory for commuters to nearby Hanau or Frankfurt; only a modest agriculture is still preserved.

Bruchköbel is also affectionately called "Brechkübel" in the region because the cityscape is characterized by numerous building sins of the 1970s. But that doesn't mean that Bruchköbel doesn't also have buildings that are worth seeing.

Since the incorporation in the 1970s, Bruchköbel has also had four other localities:

  • Rossdorf is located north of Bruchköbel and was characterized by through traffic for a long time until the bypass was built. In addition to a medieval town center, Roßdorf is mainly characterized by residential areas.
  • Low- and Oberissigheim originally formed a common village but were rebuilt on two separate hills due to frequent flooding. Oberissigheim in particular is still very much characterized by agriculture.
  • Butter City With just under 200 inhabitants, it is one of the smallest towns in the region and is located far in the northeast.

getting there

By train

The 1 Bruchköbel station is a bit away from the city center and serves as a stop for regional trains on the Hanau-Gießen route, which usually run every hour.

By bus

Bruchköbel can be reached with bus lines mainly from the direction of Hanau, including lines 33, 562 and 563. A separate tariff applies to this travel route, which is cheaper than comparable connections in the RMV area, this is still a relic from that time , when Bruchköbel was still officially part of the Hanau city bus network.

In the street

Bruchköbel is located on the B45, which is partly developed like a motorway. The easiest way to get there is via the junction Hanau North the A66.

By bicycle

Bruchköbel is not itself on a long-distance cycle path, but can be reached via well-developed cycle paths from Hanau and Erlensee (there connection to the Hessian long-distance cycle path R3).

mobility

Map of Bruchköbel

Bruchköbel can be traversed on foot without any problems, unless you plan to go to the more distant parts of the city.

Numerous cycling and hiking trails are signposted in the city. These are less used for tourism, as they mainly cross fields, but rather to help you find your way around the city and its districts.

Bruchköbel does not have a city bus in this sense, but the buses that go from Hanau to Bruchköbel cross the entire city and numerous parts of the city.

Around the church there are still remains of the wall that once delimited the churchyard.

The church was built in 1717 after a citizen donated the building site to the Lutheran congregation. After the merging of the Lutheran and Reformed congregations, the church was no longer necessary, was closed in 1822 and then converted into a residential building. Today the Bruchköbel City Library is located here.
  • 3  Bonifatiuskirche, Antoniterstraße 12. The Catholic Bonifatiuskirche is the landmark of the small village Butterstadt north of Bruchköbel. It came into being in 1866 when Butterstadt got its own Catholic community and its own elementary school and was no longer administered by Roßdorf.
