The Main-Kinzig district is a district in Hesse. The district is located in the Kinzig valley, the eponymous river Kinzig flows from east to west through the region. Along the river there are mostly meadows and fields that serve as flood plains during floods. The Kinzig valley is surrounded by larger forests.

Important trade routes existed along the Kinzig as early as Roman times and connected people with one another. Today leads the A66 (former B40) and the Kinzigtalbahn along the Kinzig. The Way of St. James also leads from Frankfurt to Fulda along the Kinzig.

By plane

In Gelnhausen there is a commercial airfield. The nearest airport is that Frankfurt Airport, this is easy to reach by public transport (Kinzigtalbahn to Frankfurt main station, then continue with the S-Bahn to Frankfurt airport regional train station or from Hanau with the ICE to Frankfurt airport long-distance train station).

With public transport

The Kinzigtalbahn Frankfurt-Fulda runs through the district. IC train stations are in Hanau and Schluechtern. Long-distance buses stop in Frankfurt and then continue by train.

There is WiFi at the ticket machines of the RMV, but there is currently no WiFi on the regional trains (as of January 2021).

The Hessian long-distance cycle route R3 runs from west to east through the district area. Furthermore, there is a Vogelsberger Südbahnradweg Connection to the Volcano cycle path.
