Flörsbachtal is a community in East Hesse.

background

Flörsbachtal consists of four villages that were merged in the 1970s to form the large municipality of Flörsbachtal:

  • Flörsbach was at the crossroads of two historic trade routes, Birkenhainer Strasse and Eselsweg, and thereby acquired a certain importance. Today Flörsbach is quietly surrounded by fields.
  • Kempfenbrunn grew as a street village along the thoroughfare, today's Würzburger Straße. The "landmark" of the place is the linden tree in the center, now 900 years old and thus one of the oldest trees of its kind.
  • Lohrhaupten is the seat of the municipal administration, all important supply facilities are also located here. The oldest parish of the Spessart is located here (first documented in 1057). Today the place is characterized by a village with many old half-timbered houses in a well-preserved historical center.
  • Mosborn was established in 1768 as a colony on a cleared area on the Spessart Heights for eight settlers from the region. Today Mosborn, with 60 inhabitants one of the smallest villages in Hesse, is the coldest place in the entire region due to its location at a good 460 meters above sea level and is a magnet for winter sports fans in winter, otherwise agriculture dominates.

Geographically, Flörsbachtal is to a certain extent a piece of Bavaria in Hesse, namely the place is in the Lohr valley and thus on the other side of the Spessart main ridge; From Hesse you can only get here over steep mountain passes, while the connection to Bavaria through the Lohr valley is very easy. In contrast to some neighboring communities, today's Flörsbachtal was politically and culturally part of Hesse; the community forms a Protestant exclave in the otherwise entirely Catholic environment.

Some of the highest mountains in the Spessart are located in the municipality. Between the places in the valley and the Spessart heights there are around 200 meters in altitude, so that the ascent can be very difficult, especially for inexperienced hikers.

getting there

By plane

By train

The next train station is in Gelnhausen, from there by bus and taxi.

By bus

The municipality of Flörsbachtal can just can be reached by taxi. No other buses go to this place.

The call taxi leaves from the last stop that is served by regular buses (Bieber Röhrig). You can get there by regular bus (MKK-64) from Gelnhausen bus station. The taxi will pick you up there and drive you to any of the four villages in Flörsbachtal, if you wish. The call taxi always runs every two hours (even on weekends).

In the street

In principle there are two ways to get to Flörsbachtal:

  • About the B276by the exits Symbol: AS 45 Bad Orb / Wächtersbach or Symbol: AS 44 Gelnhausen-Ost der A66 can be reached (is also signposted). However, there is a lot of hustle and bustle on this route with a lot of truck traffic.
  • Through Bad Orb, further in the direction of Lettgenbrunn and then over the Spessart-Höhenstraße or through Lettgenbrunn and Pfaffenhausen and further over the mountain pass. There is less traffic here because of the truck driving ban in Bad Orb, but the route is quite demanding, but on the other hand it is also scenic.

Whichever way you take, it is 20 km to Flörsbachtal. The two paths take nothing.

Travelers from the south (especially Bavaria) should take the A3 at the exit Symbol: AS 61 Follow Hösbach Spessart-Höhenstraße in the direction of Bad Orb (is signposted from Sailauf). This route is also very demanding.

mobility

Map of Flörsbachtal

In view of the largely lacking public transport, travelers without their own car are dependent on hitchhiking. It is possible to order a call taxi for urban traffic, but it usually makes little sense.

There are no separate parking spaces for visitors, but you can park on the roadside in all places without any problems. Exception Mosborn: the place is so small that in good winter weather the only street is completely blocked. Then you should switch to the hiking parking lots in the area.

The road to Mosborn from the direction of Bieber is very dangerous because of its poor condition (only 3 meters of lane width). The road from the direction of Kempfenbrunn is better developed, but it requires mountain experience as the road drops very steeply into the village.

One 1 Motorhome parking space can be found very well hidden in Lohrhaupten at a junction from Lohrer Straße.
