The Eltz Castle is one of the most famous German castles. The remarkable building has survived all wars unscathed and was never conquered by force. Its fantastic location and its unique architecture make the castle a popular destination.

The oldest parts of the castle are the Romanesque keep Platt-Eltz and parts of Pallas, they date from the 12th century. In the 13th century, the three brothers of the Eltz family divided the castle and its lands. As a result, each of the three lines built their own houses. These did not arise at the same time. The castle is presented today as it looked in the 17th century.

The castle has been owned by the von Eltz family for over 30 generations.

By train

Train ride from Koblenz or Trier to the train station Mosel core, then on foot (approx. 5 km, 90 min) along the Elzbach to the castle.   • opening hours: The castle is open from the beginning. April to early November, 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., last tour at 5:30 p.m. Photography is prohibited in the interior of the castle, animals are not allowed inside.
  • Entrance fee: Adults 11 €, adults in groups of 20 people or more. 10 €, schoolchildren 7 €, school class 6 €.
  • Treasury: With the admission ticket you have free access to the treasury in the basement, there is no guided tour. Exhibits are weapons and armor, tableware, glass and porcelain, as well as gold and silversmiths are well worth seeing. The labels are sufficient. There are brochures in several languages ​​at the entrance. Caution: The ceiling beams are a bit low in some places for taller Central Europeans.
  • guides: They start in the inner courtyard every 15-30 minutes as required and last around 45 minutes.They start in the armory, then lead through several rooms in Rübenach Castle, through a bedchamber, a knight's hall and finally end in the Rodendorf kitchen. There are two self-service restaurants in the outer bailey: the Oberschänke at the castle fountain and in the goldsmith's house and the lower inn at the linden tree and in the pillared hall.
