Books is a city in Duchy of Lauenburg.

background

The place itself would be relatively insignificant if it had not played an important role in the history of the region's railways due to the borders in the 19th and 20th centuries. To this day it is a crossing point of the Lüneburg-Lübeck and Hamburg-Berlin railway lines. Before Holstein came under Prussian administration in 1864, if you wanted to travel by train from Hamburg to Lübeck, you had to take a detour via Büchen. During the Cold War, Büchen was the last station in the British sector or in the FRG on the Hamburg-Berlin railway going east.
