Cabo Fisterra (German Cape Finisterre) is a cape on the west coast Galiciawhich is the end of the Way of St. James marked. The town is not far away Fisterra.

According to medieval tradition, many pilgrims wandered the Camino de Santiago after visiting the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela on the Camino a Fisterra 64 km further to get that "End of the world" (lat. Finisterra) to see. At least this exposed point on the west coast of Europe represented the western end of the known world before the discovery of America.
Today it is known that the most westerly point of Spain honors that a little further north Cape Touriñán is coming to the Cabo da Roca north of Lisbon represents the westernmost point of the Iberian Peninsula.
Nevertheless, many pilgrims still commit the scenic route to the Cabo Fisterra. According to old tradition, boots were thrown into the sea and their worn pilgrims' clothes were burned; Today at least the worn socks are given over to the "eternal flame" of an oil burner.
The rough Atlantic coast bears the name here, and not without good reason Costa del MorteNumerous ships lie on the seabed off the coast, and the last major catastrophe was the sinking of the Tankers Prestigiouswhich led to a devastating oil spill in 2002.

The classic way to get here is on foot on the last section of the Way of St. James, the scenic 64 km long section of the Camino a Fisterra (German way to Finisterra) from Santiago to the Atlantic coast is signposted.

The closest train station is that of Santiago de Compostela, from here the bus or a rental car must be used.

From Santiago de Compostela becomes Fisterra i.a. from Autocares Vázquez approached.

From 1 Faro de Fisterra Lighthouse gives a beautiful view of the sea, the region of the Cape is appreciated by water sports enthusiasts. Fog horns loudly mark the danger of the rocky cape in foggy conditions.
