Camarones is a small fishing village on the patagonian atlantic coast in southArgentina, in the province Chubut located. It is known for its intact wildlife (penguins, sea lions) as well as for its fish specialties. The place has about 1,000 inhabitants and has hardly been discovered by mass tourism.

The municipality is located are the eastern province Chubut on the Atlantic coast of Patagonia, and is the capital of the Florentino Ameghino department. The place was founded in 1900 and developed into the service center of the sparsely populated region. The former main branch of the economy, sheep breeding, fell into a crisis in 1980 that continues to this day. For this reason, tourism is receiving increasing attention as an alternative source of income. Fishing should also be a better source of income in the future.

Buses run from several times a week Trelew out. In actually closer Comodoro Rivadavia is currently only available if you are on Ruta 3 at Garayalde change or hitchhike (difficult).

The nearest major airport Trelew is served by several lines, from there there are bus connections to Camarones.

In the street

Camarones is 70 km off the Ruta Nacional 3, the main connection in Patagonia. The access road to Camarones, Ruta Provincial 30, is tarred. There is also a not yet complete coastal road, Ruta Provincial 1, which leads to the penguin colony, among other places Punta Tombo leads, but this is a gravel road.

The greatest attraction is the Cabo Dos Bahías reserve, a very attractive rocky cape on which there is a penguin colony and a sea lion colony. These reserves are located 30 km east of the actual place. There are also numerous good sandy beaches in the area.

Many of the houses in Camarones are still in the traditional Patagonian corrugated iron style.
