Campaign is a city of the Buenos Aires province, head of the party of the same name. It is located on the right bank of the Paraná River, 75 km. of the Federal Capital. Next to the neighboring city of Zarate it forms an industrial and port pole in constant growth. Without being a purely tourist city, it has a diversity of attractions that make it an interesting destination for travelers to the region.

To get

By car

Two important routes connect the city:

Collective

Due to its location, most of the buses that travel between Buenos Aires and northern Argentina, Mesopotamia and neighboring countries pass through Campana. Long distance lines stop at the bus terminal located on the outskirts of the city:

  • 1  Parador Campana, Colectora Sur 1815 (at the height of km. 74 of National Route N ° 9). 54 3489 432858.

To travel to or from Buenos Aires, the line 194 (Coastal / Chevallier) offers buses every few minutes for most of the day, with stops at various points in the city. Attention must be paid as the common service includes intermediate stops that can double the travel time of the direct or semi-fast service.

To get there from the west of the province, the bus line 228 It has a service between the cities of Zárate and Luján that passes through Campana, with a frequency of approximately one bus every four hours.

By train

Through the Retiro-Zárate branch of the Miter line, making a transfer at Villa Ballester.

By boat or boat

It can also be reached by river, using one of the collective boat services that arrive from different points of the Paraná delta and stop at the public dock on the waterfront.

For those who travel in their own boat or motorboat, the city has two nautical clubs that can provide mooring services:

Travel

The most practical way to move around the city for those who do not have their own vehicle is to use remises, it is possible to find an agency every few blocks. Although you see cars with a taxi sign, for practical purposes they work as remises and only take passengers at the agency or by phone call.

There is only one local bus line (Cooperativa 6 de Julio) that offers several tours, but the condition of the vehicles is not the best. Two interurban lines are usually used for urban transfers due to the length of their routes:

  • Line 228 in its routes Campana-Zárate, Campana-Lima and Zárate-Luján.
  • Line 60 (former-204) on its Escobar-Zárate route.

As in other destinations in the country, a SUBE card must be used to pay for the trip.

Watch

The wide and tree-lined streets of the city and an architecture that alternates modern buildings with buildings from the 19th century, make walks through the urban area an attractive option.Plaza Eduardo Costa (or Big square for the Campanians) is the reference point from which the tours usually start, which usually include the following points of interest, among others:

  • 1  Eduardo Costa Square. Various monuments and sculptures.
  • 2  City Hall (In front of the main square). Inaugurated in 1934, it is probably the most emblematic building in Campana.
  • 3  ISFD Building N ° 15 (In front of the main square). Building from 1917 declared a Municipal Historical Monument.
  • 4  Santa Florentina Cathedral (In front of the main square). Of an unconventional architecture, it has a famous mural of Raul Soldi on the main altar.
  • 5  Mall (Av. Rocca, from the square to the train station). In addition to shops, it concentrates most of the banks in the city, some of which allow foreign currency to be exchanged.
  • 6  Train station. Old building, on its sides there is a rest bar and the House of the Isleño, where you can buy artisan articles made by inhabitants of the island sector.
  • 7  Coastal walk. Adjacent to the main port of the city, the street is usually in poor condition due to the heavy traffic that circulates on its way to it. It has benches and tables for public use.
  • 8  Old train station (On the coastal walk). Of great historical value but in a regrettable state of abandonment.
  • 9  English quarter. Old neighborhood built by the English community that arrived with the first refrigerator in the city. It is advisable to continue along Luis Costa street and also visit the Dálmine neighborhood.

The city has several green spaces to visit, the main ones being:

  • 10  Urban park (Av. Varela (ex Av. Rivadavia) and Av. Ameghino). It has a playground for children.
  • 11  Plaza Italia (About Bvd. Sarmiento). In the warm months it houses a significant population of swallows, seeing them return at sunset is a must see. It has a children's play area, exercise area and a merry-go-round.
  • 12  Plaza Spain (About Bvd. Dellepiane (ex Bvd. Lavalle)). In addition to the Automobile Museum, you can find shuffleboard fields from the retirement center and some children's games in this square.

Campana is a relatively safe city, far from having the crime levels of the Federal Capital or Greater Buenos Aires. However, incidents do occur sporadically, so it is recommended to take the same precautions that would be taken in a large city.

It is advisable to avoid the neighborhoods that are outside the urban area (delimited by route N ° 6, route N ° 9 and Av. 6 de Julio), since several of them can be unsafe for tourists, especially at night.

Caution should be exercised with traffic, as drivers often do not respect the rules and there are accidents on a daily basis. Motorcycles are particularly unpredictable.
