History

From 1956 and earlier, Cao Lanh was just a part of Cao Lanh district, Sa Dec province. From 1956 to 1975, Cao Lanh was the provincial capital of Kien Phong province. After 1975, Cao Lanh was a district of Dong Thap province, the district capital was Cao Lanh town.

On February 23, 1983, the Council of Ministers of State of Vietnam issued Decision No. 13-HDBT, establishing Cao Lanh town on the basis of separating Cao Lanh town and An Hoa, My Tra and My Tan communes of Vietnam.
