Carnac (Breton Karnag) is one french Commune in the department Morbihan, in the Brittany.
background
Politically, Carnac belongs to the Arrondissement of Lorient and the Canton of Quiberon.
The parish is located southwest of Auray and southeast of Lorient on the Baie de Quiberon. The municipality consists of two larger settlements Carnac-Bourg (also Carnac-Ville) and Carnac-Plage.
There are over 3000 menhirs in the parish area. So it is a must for those interested in archeology.

- Chapelle Saint-Michel. Chapel of St. Michel. The 17th century chapel is built on top of the St. Michel tumulus. It takes place only 1 fair annually, and this on September 1st.

Carnac stones
- Site Mégalithque de Carnac. Carnac megalithic complexes. The place Carnac is world famous for its Alignments. The stone avenues of Carnac are the largest in the world with around 3000 menhirs. The rows of stones extend for several kilometers along the D196 from Le Menec to Kerlescan. You can get a good overview of the entire complex in the visitor center near the Menec stone row. There is also a model of the Alignments presents. As a result of the destruction of vegetation, access is regulated. The facility can be visited freely from October to March (no / few tours), but damaged parts are cordoned off. Between April and September: Access only with a guide, they regularly change their route. The tours are also held in English.Open: May - early September 9 a.m. - 7 p.m., early September - April 10 a.m. - 5.15 p.m.Price: € 6 for adults, free for children and young people.
- Menec stone row. The row of stones has a stone circle at both ends and consists of 1050 stones.
- Row of stones from Kermario. Due to the size of the menhirs the most visited stone avenue, with 1029 stones. In the middle of the rows of stones there is a viewing platform that is accessible at all times.
- Kerlescan stone row. The smallest but best preserved stone field with 540 menhirs. There is a tumulus at the north end. A little further north-west is the 6 meter high Geant de Manio.

Museums
- Museum of Prehistoire, Place de la Chapelle. The museum was founded in 1881 by James Miln and Zacharie La Rouzic. The exhibition shows various finds from the region in chronological order on two floors. A slide show shows how the finds are related to the megalithic cultures of other regions. - Carnac-Plage is located between the Pô and the Beaumer Bay, and its beaches are a bathing paradise. The St-Colomban stand is a meeting point for surfers.
