History

The park was built to meet the demand for wood for railway construction in the time of the British Raj.

Landscape

The park is in the Indus Plains of Punjab. The park consists of a water body and wooded areas, with animals such as jackals, axis deer and wild cats.

Flora and fauna

There are some big mammals which became rare or endangered in Pakistan surving in the park, such as wild boar, found in the whole park with high density. Rare mammal species include hog deer, nilgai (blue bull), jackals and jungle cats. Furthermore there are reports about axis deer (Axis axis) within the borders of the park.

The park is a very good place for bird-watchers.

Get in

About one hour distance to Lahore by car. The Changa Manga forest can be entered from a road off (jumber) the N-5 Highway near Bhai Pheru and Chunian.

There are no fees nor is any permit needed.

Get around

See

There is a visitable breeding center for vultures, attached to the park. A small steam-operated engine train also serves for transporting visitors to the park. There is also a small zoo.

Beware that there are a lot of mosquitos in the Changa Manga plantation, and some of them may be infected with malaria.

Furthermore there are big mammals like wild boars, which sometimes can be dangerous. Other possibly dangerous animals within the park include some species of snakes which are deadly-poisonous.
