Charlotte Amalie is the capital and the major center of US Virgin Islands.
To know
Charlotte Amalie sits on a bay on the southern coast of the island of Saint Thomas.
The city takes its name from Carlotta Amalia of Hesse-Kassel (1650-1714), wife of King Christian V of Denmark. It is famous for the port characterized by the depth of its waters, once the prey of pirates, now a stopping place for many cruises (about one and a half million passengers arrived in Charlotte Amalie in 2004).

When Pope John XXIII on 30 April 1960 with the bull Cum apostolicus created the prelature of US Virgin Islands, the church of Saints Peter and Paul was contextually elevated to a cathedral church.
- Synagogue. The city is home to the second oldest synagogue in the Western Hemisphere.
