Geographical notes
The Evenk District or simply Evenkia (in Russian: Эвенкияйский автоноямный ойкруг), is an okrug with special administrative status of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Its administrative center is Tura. Its extension is 767,600 km², and it is the seventh largest entity in Russia, although the least populated (17,697 people in 2002). In 1908 it was the site of the Tunguska event.
Following a referendum held on April 17, 2005, the okrug, together with that of Taymyria, were united in the Krasnoyarsk Territory on January 1, 2007. Before that date, the Evenki district was an autonomous district and therefore a federal subject.
