Colijnsplaat lies at the foot of the Zeeland bridge with a view of the vast Oosterschelde.
After Einpolderunng of the Nieuwe Oud-Noord-Bevelandpolder (1598) a village was also designed. It was named after the "Grode Colijnsplaat" that was also diked. The wide Voorstraat, lined with trimmed linden trees, connects the dike with the square churchyard and church, which until 1920 was surrounded by a canal. Four narrow back streets run parallel to the Voorstraat and are divided by the Kruisstraat halfway up between the church and the dike.
Colijnsplaat owes its development to the most important place in Noord-Bevelands primarily to fishing. In addition to the ships from the own town (CP), there are also those from Arnemuiden (ARM), Kortgene (KG) and Tholen (TH) in the port. These places have all been cut off from the sea in the course of time. In spring, the fishing boats bring live Oosterschelde lobsters, which are sold at the auction in Colijnsplaat.

- Protected view of the village. In all the streets that run parallel to the Voorstraat, there are simple houses on one side and characteristic barns on the other. It is mainly because of this preserved condition that Colijnsplaat has been awarded the title Beschermd dorpsgezicht receive. Until 1960 the street plan of the village from 1600 was preserved, only after that the village was expanded.
- Vismijn, Visserijweg 1, 4486 CX. After the Veerse Gat was closed in 1961, most of the fishing fleet moved from Veere to Colijnsplaat. Selling fish is an important source of income these days. Every Thursday the ships return and it is in the Vismijn Fish auctioned. Other days, shrimp. The Vismijn even has the highest shrimp sales in the Netherlands. It's an interesting spectacle. And nowhere is the fish fresher.
- Former town hall, Havenstraat 11, 4486 AA. The mansion, which previously served as the town hall, was converted into a low-key building with a tower in 1796. The house is bare and has a little gate.
- Nehalennia Temple, Marina. The Nehalennia Temple has been reconstructed at a prominent location in the harbor. It is reminiscent of temples that in ancient times stood in honor of Nehalennias, the patron goddess of seafarers and travelers in this region. Since 1970, dozens of altar stones and pictures have been fished out of the water in front of Colijnsplaat. These probably come from a Nehalennia temple that stood in the Ganuenta settlement. Ganuenta was an international port on the northern border of the Roman Empire (near today's Colijnsplaat) in the first century AD. Salt, liquamen (fish sauce), ceramics and wine were traded. At some point the city fell victim to the floods. According to archaeological findings, this temple was rebuilt in 2004.Open: Changing. Guided tour by appointment.
- Monument "Houen Jongens" (Hold, Boys). As if by a miracle, Colijnsplaat was saved from the 1953 flood. The flood planks that were supposed to stop the water threatened to burst. And suddenly there was a ship that was anchored. It was driven by the waves just in front of the dike passage. Colijnsplaat was saved. This monument symbolizes the fight against the water with a human hand, the flood planks and the swelling waves. It is at the dike passage at the old port.

trips
Kats is a small village on the banks of the Oosterschelde. Since 1809 there was a ferry connection to Katsveer on Zuid-Beveland. After the construction of the Zandkreekdam in 1963, the connection was discontinued. The calm and the relative isolation attracted many artists to Kats. Various living rooms have been transformed into studios and galleries.
