background

The St. Felix flood on November 5, 1530 put Noord-Beveland completely under water. Only the church tower of Kortgene still protruded from the water. It was not until after 1598 that today's Noord-Beveland, with its wide polders and straight roads, was created through new polders. Agriculture predominates on the island, mainly cereals and sugar beets. Until the end of the 19th century, madder was predominantly grown here. Noord-Beveland with the Veerse Meer and the Oosterschelde is a real water sports island with all its possibilities for swimming, sunbathing, diving and sailing. There are marinas and recreational areas on both sides of the island.
