Colima is the capital ofColima State.

Understand

The city has 130,000 inhabitants. It is located in a valley towards the center of the state. This city is rather calm and not very touristy; it is a safe place. It has a fairly renowned university which conducts a lot of international exchange. It is the ideal city to land and explore the state of Colima.

A bus station links with the main large cities in the area. It is a little eccentric to the east. A taxi will cost you around 20 pesos.

By bus

A complete network of buses will allow you to circulate in the city. The trip costs 5 pesos. Unfortunately, there is no map of the lines, you will have to stop the first bus that passes with a wave of your hand, and ask the driver how to get to your destination.

Another bus station (Terminal Rojo) will take you to the small towns around Colima.

By taxi

Taxis are common in the city. One ride should not cost you more than 20 pesos. But the prices tend to go up at the sight of a westerner.

See

  • Main plaza  – Has a small garden in its center with a few fountains. Around the square is the cathedral, the Palacio de Gobierno, the tourist office, and the Museo regional de Historia de Colima.
  • Parque Regional Metropolitano  – Park offering a few activities including a swimming pool, quad and pedal boat tours.
  • La Campana  – Ruins north of Colima.

Make

  • Go for a swim in the Coqimatlán river a few kilometers east of Colima.
  • Spend a night on the Carrizalillos lagoon.

Have a drink / Go out

The Plaza Principal has a few places where you can try the big pints of micheladas, a mix of beer, spices, lemon and salt.
