Story

The village of Collobrières owes its name to the real Collobrier, or river of snakes, at the time when the Romans exploited the mines of lead, copper and iron.

The first traces of life in Collobrières date from pre-Roman times.

Le Réal Collobrier, although he was unable to stem the passages of the "Grandes Compagnies de Turenne", end XIVe century and the plundering by Savoyard troops during the siege of Toulon in 1707, however, served to protect the population against invasions in Provence.

Immersed in the Moors forest, the village has always lived on its resources.

It was a native of the country, Aumeran, who went to Spain to find the secret of transforming cork into cork.

In 1850, the town had 17 cork shops, 3 sawmills, and several lead, copper and iron mines.

The mansions along the main boulevard tell the story of these once flourishing industries and contrast with the medieval houses of the old village.

Today, the forest remains an important element in the life and in the hearts of Collobriérois.
