Var is a department in the French region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Var, number 83, has a long coastline to the south to the Mediterranean, which, as the Côte d'Azur, is one of the most important holiday areas in France. In the other cardinal directions, Var borders Bouches-du-Rhône in the west, over a length of a few hundred meters, the department Vaucluse in the northwest, in the north to the department Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and in the east Alpes-Maritimes.
