Sanary-sur-Mer is a port city on the Mediterranean in the French department Var.

background

The name comes from the Provencal form (San Nari) of Saint Nazarius (Saint Nazaire), a Christian martyr from the 1st century. Around 1300 the place of worship became a small hamlet. As the port of Ollioules the place experiences its first boom.

The port of Sanary is now considered one of the most typical and authentic ports on the French Mediterranean coast. In the old natural harbor there are still a number of historical fishing boats, some of which are part of the “historical national heritage” of France.

From 1933 to 1942, Sanary was a refuge for many well-known representatives of German culture; it is the “capital of German literature in exile”.

There are completely new perspectives.
