Colonia is a historic city, of Portuguese colonization, and very simple. It's quiet and has all the profile of a country town, but make no mistake: it has wonderful restaurants and the city has a special charm. Colonia is next to Buenos Aires, separated only by the Rio de la Plata. The trip from one city to another is just 1 hour on large, air-conditioned and comfortable catamarans.

It takes a willingness to walk the entire city, which has cobblestone pavement. But there are establishments that rent golf carts and motorized tricycles so tourists can ride without getting tired. There are cozy and beautiful restaurants for all tastes and budgets.

The city is the refuge of Argentines and Uruguayans in cold seasons, just as Punta is the hotspot during the summer. The city is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
