Understand

The Valencian Community has two official languages: Castilian (Spanish) and Valencian (a Catalan dialect). If you speak one of these two languages, you will make yourself understood anywhere in the Community. Otherwise, rest assured, a large portion of Spanish people speak at least English, and many of them speak French.

To go

From France

  • From Languedoc and Sillon Rhodanien : follow the highway A9 to the Col du Perthus and the AP-7 once you have crossed the border.
  • From the South West : it is possible to go through the Col du Perthus or the Col du Somport. There is a possibility to cross the border on the Basque Coast and go through Pamplona.

From the rest of Spain

  • Andalusia and Murcia : the de facto arrival by the fast track A-7 then by the highway AP-7.

By plane

  • 1 Castellón-Costa Azahar Airport (IATA : CDT, ICAO: THE CH, Aeropuerto de Castellón-Costa Azahar) Logo indicating a link to the websiteLogo indicating a wikipedia linkLogo indicating a link to the wikidata element in Vilanova d'Alcolea and Benlloc (30 km north of Castellón de la Plana)

Circulate

The road and motorway network is in perfect condition throughout the region.

Many expressways connect most of the localities, a single toll freeway (called "autopista" ...) exists along the coast, very busy during summer migrations. This numbered axis AP-7 serves the towns of Castellon de la Plana and of Valence, its course continues in the direction of Benidorm and D'Alicante.

Other expressways (known as "autovia" ...) were built on the route of old national roads not running alongside the toll motorway, offering the same levels of service and safety expected on a toll motorway:

The service stations are located as well on the main axes as on the ordinary roads, they tend to become rarer in the mountainous massifs. International payment cards are generally accepted.

Watch out for the nervous conduct of locals, unsuitable gait and disregarding safety distances are common.

Speed limits:

  • Motorway and expressway: 120 km / h
  • Ordinary route: 90 or 100 km / h
  • City : 50 km / h
