Corrientes is the capital of the province of the same name Corrientes in the Argentine Mesopotamia. It is located on the Río Paraná, across from Resistencia, and has a population of about 400,000.
background
Corrientes is best known for its carnival. The splendid parades take place in January and February and are similar in appearance to the Brazilian Carnival. But the local chamamé music, a kind of polka, also gives it its own character.
getting there
By plane
Only a few flights arrive at Corrientes Airport, Cambá Punta. This is 10 km northeast of the center near the Molina Punta district. There are daily connections only after Buenos Aires.
By train
A train is planned to serve the city from Monte Caseros in the south of the province. There is, however, no association with the Resistencia network.
By bus
The bus connections are numerous. As in all of Argentina, the bus is the main means of transport for the locals.
In the street
Corrientes is on Ruta Nacional 12, which runs from Zárate (Prov. Buenos Aires) to Iguazú leads. With Resistencia (and thus with northwest Argentina) the city is connected by a bridge.
