North Atlantic coast is a region of Morocco; the most industrious, which also counts the capital among its cities Rabat.

Unlike the Mediterranean coast, the Atlantic region is flat in character. The major cities of Morocco line up on the coast.

Urban centers

  • Assilah - Just about fifty kilometers south of Tangier, Assilah is a seaside resort on the Atlantic coast, very popular in summer especially by Spanish tourists. The medina of the fifteenth century has been beautifully restored to perfection.
  • Casablanca - the largest and most modern city in the country. Its historic medina and its contemporary mosque (the third largest in the world) are worth a half-day visit.
  • Kenitra
  • Larache - Ancient Lixus.
  • Mehdia - Fishing center on the Sebou estuary. In its vicinity are the nature reserve of Sidi Boughabai lake and or archaeological sites of Banasa is Thamusida.
  • Mohammédia - Oil port.
  • Port Lixus - Seaside resort with a complex of hotels and villas set up by the companies Thomas & Piron and Colbert Orc, both of the Belgium.
  • Rabat - Capital of the country and a quiet city which includes a tower and a 12th century minaret.
