Culebra is an island of the Caribbean east of Puerto Rico.

Culebra is a small island Caribbean between Puerto Rico to the west and Saint Thomas at East.
Culebra is off the beaten track by mass tourism, which gives it a tranquil feel. It is not economically developed and is plagued by a high unemployment rate.
Background
Until 1970 the Marines carried out military exercises in Culebra and rusted carcasses of tanks and myriads of bullets remain on the island's beaches.

- Dewey - The small town located between two lagoons. The locals call it Pueblo.
Other destinations
- Culebra National Wildlife Refuge - The islets around Culebra constitute a nature reserve established to protect the numerous bird colonies. Tourists are only allowed to access the islands of Culebrita is Luis Peña. The others require special permits issued by the US Fish and Wildelife Service.
- Flamenco Beach (Playa Flamenco) - The busiest and also the most beautiful of Culebra's beaches, on weekends there are crowds of Puerto Rico.
- Playa Tamarindo - Beach on the north coast.
- Punta Melones - A beach just outside the capital.
- Soldier's Point (Playa Soldado) - Beach on the southwest coast with a few hotels.
How to get
By plane
Culebra can be reached by plane from San Juan, Fajardo, Vieques or from the neighbor Saint Thomas.
There is a daily ferry service that leaves from Fajardo on the east coast of Puerto Rico. Other ferries sail once a week from the island of Vieques.
