The municipality of Côte-Nord-du-Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent is located in the regional county municipality of Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent which corresponds to the tourist region of Duplessis on the North Coast from the Gulf of St.Lawrence to Quebec. In fact, it is not a question of a single village, but rather of several villages scattered along the coast which are distant of several hundred kilometers from each other on the Lower North Shore. The village of Chevery serves as a municipal center. Other villages include Tête-à-la-Baleine, Harrington Harbor and Kegaska. The total population of the municipality does not exceed 1,000 inhabitants. The main economic activity is fishing.

Interestingly, the municipality does not have an elected municipal council, it is headed by an administrator appointed by the government of Quebec.

The municipality hosted the filming of the film The Great Seduction produced in the village of Harrington Harbor, the name of which is replaced by "Sainte-Marie-la-Mauderne" in the film.
